A field day or church festival usually has a rotating crowd that’s bigger, older on average, and more spread out in age — kindergartners next to sixth graders, or grade-schoolers next to their parents and grandparents at a festival. An obstacle course handles that mix better than a standard bounce house because it’s built as a race: kids move through it in a line, which keeps a long line of waiting participants moving instead of clustered around one small jump area, and the format works for guests well past bounce-house age. Planning a Field Day, VBS Week, or Church Festival
Spring field days and early-summer VBS weeks land in the same busy stretch of the calendar as birthday parties and graduation parties, so the same seasonal squeeze applies — Saturdays and the last weeks of the school year book up first. Reach out with your date as soon as it’s set, especially if you’re planning around a specific week the school or church has already committed to. If your event runs across more than one day, ask us about overnight and all-weekend rental options — some units can stay set up across a longer stretch instead of being delivered and picked up the same day, which is worth asking about directly for a multi-day festival or a VBS week.
If your event is happening at a public park, a church parking lot, or another venue instead of on school or church-owned property, contact city hall for that location to check what permits apply — parks generally require a permit from the city, and if there’s no power on site, a generator can be added to the order. Let us know the venue when you reserve so we can plan the delivery accordingly.
Space, Power, and Surface for School and Church Grounds
The setup requirements are the same ones that apply to every rental we deliver, they just look a little different on a school field or church lawn than in a backyard:
- Path and access. We need a 36-inch-wide path to the setup area, including gates and doorways, and we cannot carry equipment up or down stairs.
- Power within 50 feet. The blower needs to stay plugged in for the entire event. If the nearest outlet is farther than 50 feet from where the unit will sit — common on a field or in a gym — tell us and we can add a generator to the order instead.
- Surface and anchoring. We set up on grass, cement, concrete, asphalt, and indoors. Grass gets long steel stakes; hard surfaces, blacktop, and indoor setups like a gym get sandbags instead. Tell us the surface when you reserve so the crew brings the right anchoring.
- Indoor setups. A gym or multipurpose room can work for a rainy-day backup or an indoor VBS session — check the item dimensions on the specific unit’s product page against your ceiling height and floor space before you book.
- Utility lines. We stake into the ground to secure most equipment, so mark any sprinkler heads or utility lines ahead of time, and call 811 at least 48 hours before your event.
- Pick the spot before we arrive. Once a unit is unrolled, it does not get moved, so have the location decided and clear before our crew shows up.
Weather and Cleaning
Outdoor school and church events are at the mercy of Cleveland weather the same as any backyard party. If wind speeds exceed 15 miles per hour, it isn’t safe to operate an inflatable, and we reserve the right to cancel or postpone. Plain rain usually isn’t a dealbreaker — we generally still deliver, and if your event is still on, so are we — but lightning and thunderstorms are different: activity stops immediately and the unit gets deflated until it passes. A reschedule request for weather needs to reach us before 8am the day before delivery. If you’re planning a wet obstacle course for a late-spring or summer event, remember our wet rental season runs Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend; outside that window, the same units run dry. Every unit is cleaned with commercial vinyl cleaners, disinfected, sanitized, and inspected between rentals.
School and Church Event Questions Before You Book
What size obstacle course fits a school field day?
It depends on how much open space you have and how many kids are moving through at once. A 30ft or 40ft course fits a tighter field or blacktop area, while the 60ft, 62ft, and 101ft courses need a long, clear, flat run — closer to a soccer field than a playground. Tell us your space and rough headcount and we can help you match a size.
Can the obstacle course be set up in our gym for an indoor event?
Often, yes. We set up indoors using sandbag anchoring instead of stakes. Check the item dimensions listed on the specific course’s product page against your ceiling height and floor space, since our taller courses need real vertical clearance.
Do you deliver to public parks for a church festival?
Yes. Parks generally require a permit from the city, and a generator may be needed if there’s no power at the site — contact your city hall to confirm what’s required and let us know when you reserve.
Will someone from your team run the obstacle course during our event?
Our crew delivers, sets up, and walks you through how to operate the unit safely, but the course itself doesn’t come with a dedicated attendant the way our mechanical bull does. Plan on a teacher, staff member, or volunteer keeping an eye on the line, the same as you would for any other field day station.
What if it rains on the day of our event?
We usually still deliver in the rain, and if your event is still happening, so is your rental. Wind above 15 miles per hour, lightning, and thunderstorms are the exceptions — those mean a delay, a pause, or a possible reschedule, with notice needed before 8am the day before delivery for a weather-related change.
