Birthdays are the number one reason families around Cleveland call us. A bounce house does something no other party rental does: it is the activity, the photo backdrop, and the thing that keeps a dozen kids happily occupied while you get the candles in the cake.

Start With the Birthday Kid, Not the Unit

We rent two basic shapes. An open bounce house is one large jump area and nothing else. A combo adds an attached slide to that jump area. Which one fits depends less on a number than on who is coming and what they are into.

A note before the suggestions below: these are our own read on which themes and shapes tend to land with which ages, based on how the units are themed and built. They are not manufacturer age ratings, and we do not publish one. What we do publish is a hard operating guideline that applies to every unit we own: no more than six people in a standard bounce house at a time. Crowding it makes the inflatable go soft, which is a safety problem, not a fun problem.

Toddlers and Preschoolers

For a second, third, or fourth birthday, simpler usually wins. An open bounce house with no slide keeps every child on one level and in your line of sight, and there is no climb-and-slide traffic pattern for a two-year-old to get tangled up in. Parents of the littlest guests also tend to appreciate that they can stand at the door and see everything.

Early Elementary, Roughly Kindergarten Through Third Grade

This is the age where the theme does most of the work. A five-year-old who is deep into dinosaurs will talk about a dinosaur bounce house for a month afterward, and the slide on a combo becomes the main event rather than an obstacle. Ask the birthday kid what they want the party to be about and there is a good chance we have it.

Bigger Kids and Tweens

Somewhere around eight or nine, castles and cartoon characters stop being the draw. What still works is anything tied to what they actually play or watch, plus a combo with enough slide to make repeat trips worth it. Older kids also self-regulate the six-at-a-time rule better, which makes a bigger guest list easier to manage.

Good picks: Minecraft Combo, Super Mario Combo, Gamer Combo, Mega Blocks Combo, Galaxies Away Combo, and the K Pop Combo.

Mixed-Age Parties and Cousins-Included Guest Lists

If the guest list runs from toddler cousins to fifth graders, a combo is usually the more flexible choice, because the little kids can stay in the bounce area while the big kids run the slide. A theme-neutral unit also avoids the problem of a bounce house that looks like it belongs to one specific kid. How Far Ahead to Book

There is no universal deadline, but there is a real seasonal squeeze. Saturdays from late spring through early fall are the busiest slots we have, and specific themed units book out before generic ones do. A workable timeline looks like this:

• Four to six weeks out: pick your date and reserve the unit. This is the window where you actually get your first choice of theme rather than your third. A non-refundable deposit holds the reservation.
• Three to four weeks out: send invitations with a firm start and end time, because the rental window you book is tied to those times.
• Two weeks out: walk your yard. Measure the setup area, find the nearest outdoor outlet, and check the width of your gate.
• The week of: we reach out to confirm the order details and ask how you plan to pay the remaining balance, which is due before setup.
• The day before: mow, pick up dog waste and sharp objects, and clear the setup area. If weather looks genuinely severe, a rescheduling request needs to reach us before 8am the day before delivery.

Booking later than that is often still possible, especially midweek or outside peak summer. It just means taking what is available. Check availability for your date and we will tell you straight.

Getting the Yard Ready

Backyard prep is where most first-time birthday rentals go sideways, and all of it is easy to handle if you know it in advance.

• Measure the space. Each product page lists that unit’s item dimensions. Measure your actual setup area against them, leave room to walk around the unit, and check overhead clearance from tree limbs and wires. We cannot be responsible if the unit does not fit the spot you picked.
• Clear a path. We need a 36-inch-wide path to the setup area, gates and doorways included, and we cannot take equipment up or down stairs.
• Power within 50 feet. The blower has to stay plugged in the whole time. For a bounce house, one regular wall outlet typically does the job. If the nearest power is farther than 50 feet, tell us and we can add a generator to your order instead.
• Any surface works, with notice. We set up on grass, cement, concrete, asphalt, and indoors. Grass gets long steel stakes; hard surfaces and indoor setups get sandbags. Tell us the terrain when you reserve so the crew brings the right anchoring.
• Mark your sprinklers and utilities. We stake into the ground to secure most equipment, so flag any sprinkler or utility lines, and call 811 at least 48 hours before your event.
• Pick the spot and mean it. Once an inflatable is unrolled, it does not get moved. Decide before we arrive.
• Keep certain things away from it. No silly string, face paint, soap, baby oil, sand, lotion, fireworks, candy, food, or soda on or around the unit. Silly string melts vinyl and face paint stains it permanently. Cake and pizza belong on a table, not in the bounce house.

Wet, Dry, and the Cleveland Weather Question

Many of our combos are wet/dry units, meaning the slide can be run with a hose. Wet rentals run from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. Outside that window, every wet unit still runs perfectly well dry, so a June-through-August birthday gets the choice and an October birthday simply gets the dry version of the same unit. If you are booking wet, you provide a hose from your spigot to the setup site. Never run water on a unit that is not built for it.

On the weather itself, our policy is specific rather than vague. If wind speeds exceed 15 miles per hour it is not safe to operate an inflatable, and we reserve the right to cancel or postpone. Plain rain is usually not a dealbreaker: we generally still deliver in the rain, and if your party is still on, so are we. Thunderstorms are different. If lightning shows up after delivery, all activity stops immediately and the unit gets deflated until it passes. Inclement weather is the one exception to the non-refundable deposit, and if a cancellation becomes unavoidable we can reschedule to a new date, though the same unit is not guaranteed to be free that day.

The practical version for a birthday: have an indoor plan for cake and presents, and treat the bounce house as the outdoor half of the party. Indoor setup is also possible in a space with the ceiling height and floor area for it, with sandbag anchoring instead of stakes.

What Party Day Looks Like

The start time you enter on your order is the time we guarantee the unit is up and running by. Our delivery routes begin at 7am, so the crew arrives somewhere between 7am and one hour before your start time. If your party starts at 2pm, expect setup between 7am and 1pm. We also reserve the right to deliver up to 48 hours early when routing requires it, and you get plenty of notice if that happens.

Your end time is the time you are guaranteed the unit until. Our latest pickup is 6pm, because of driver safety and early darkness in spring and fall. If your party runs past that, book the overnight option and we collect it the next morning. For a birthday weekend with out-of-town family, some units can be booked all weekend, delivered Friday and picked up Monday morning.

Every unit is cleaned with commercial vinyl cleaners, disinfected, sanitized, and inspected after each rental before it goes back out.

Birthday Party Questions Parents Ask Before Booking

How far ahead should I book for a birthday party?

Four to six weeks is the comfortable window for a peak-season Saturday, and it is the difference between getting the theme your kid asked for and getting whatever is left. Midweek and off-season dates are often available on much shorter notice. Contact us with your date and we will tell you what is open.

What happens if it rains on the day of the party?

We usually still deliver in rain, and if your party is still happening, so is your rental. What stops us is wind above 15 miles per hour, or lightning and thunderstorms. If storms arrive mid-party, all bouncing stops and the unit is deflated until the weather clears. Inclement weather is the only exception to our non-refundable deposit, and rescheduling requires notice before 8am the day before your delivery.

What do I need to have ready at the house?

A measured, cleared setup area; a 36-inch-wide path to it with no stairs; power within 50 feet; sprinkler and utility lines marked; and a hose to the site if you booked a wet unit. Have the area picked out before we arrive, because the unit will not be moved once it is unrolled.

Does it have to go on grass?

No. Grass, cement, concrete, asphalt, and indoor setups all work. We anchor with long steel stakes on grass and with sandbags everywhere else, so just tell us the surface when you place the reservation.

How many kids can be in it at once?

No more than six people in a standard bounce house at a time. Beyond that the unit goes soft, which is a genuine safety issue. On a single-lane slide, never more than one person per lane, with one climbing while one slides.

Can we use the water feature for a spring or fall birthday?

Wet rentals run Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. Outside that window the same combos run dry, and they are just as popular that way. We do not reschedule or refund for temperature, so if the forecast looks chilly, plan on a dry setup and enjoy it.

Are the units cleaned between parties?

Yes. Every unit is thoroughly cleaned with commercial vinyl cleaners, disinfected, sanitized, and then inspected before it goes out again.

What if the party is at a park instead of our backyard?

We do deliver to parks. Parks generally require permits from the city, may need us added to insurance paperwork, and need a generator if there is no power on site. Overnight rentals are not available in public areas, so the unit comes down at the end of your event and no later than 6pm. Contact your city hall about permits and let us know so we can coordinate.
