Ohio graduation open houses have a rhythm of their own. Instead of a single seated event, guests tend to drift in and out over a few hours — grandparents in the early afternoon, friends and coworkers stopping by after work, extended family camping out at the food table all day. That flow is exactly what a tent is built for. It gives you one shaded, weather-protected space where people can eat, sit, and mingle no matter what the yard looks like or what the sky is doing, and it turns a driveway, side yard, or open backyard into real usable party space instead of a spot everyone just walks past on the way inside.

A high-peak tent in particular works well for this kind of party. The steep, peaked roofline sheds rain instead of pooling it, gives you real standing headroom near the center instead of a low, tarp-like feel, and reads as a proper event structure rather than a basic pop-up canopy — which matters when you’ve got a couple hundred guests cycling through over an afternoon.

What Size Tent Do You Need?

Guest-count planning for a graduation party is a little different than a wedding, because you’re rarely seating everyone at once. Most open houses have a rotating crowd, so the more useful question isn’t “how many people fit under the tent” but “how much of my party do I want covered, and how many people do I need seated comfortably at any given time.”

Based on the package chair counts, the 20×20 seats up to 48 guests, the 20×30 seats up to 64, and the 20×40 seats up to 96.

20×20 Tent — Smaller Open Houses

Pairs with 48 chairs and 6 tables. A solid fit for a smaller open house, a family-and-close-friends gathering, or a backyard that’s tight on space. This is also the tent size currently available to book directly on our site.

20×30 Tent — Mid-Size Gatherings

Pairs with 64 chairs and 8 tables. A common choice for a typical Northeast Ohio open house that expects a steady stream of neighbors, coworkers, and extended family throughout the day.

20×40 Tent — Larger Open Houses and Multi-Family Parties

Pairs with 96 chairs and 12 tables. Sized for bigger guest lists, combined graduation parties for siblings or cousins celebrating together, or families who want plenty of covered seating even during the busiest stretch of the afternoon.

Booking Around Ohio’s Graduation Season (May and June)

Graduation season in Northeast Ohio is compressed into a few intense weekends — mostly late May and early June, with a lot of overlap around Memorial Day weekend when multiple schools hold ceremonies within days of each other. That overlap is the main planning challenge: a large share of the area’s tents, tables, and chairs get requested for the exact same two or three Saturdays every year.

A few things are worth knowing as you plan:

• Tents are typically delivered and set up 1 to 3 days before your event and picked up 1 to 3 days after — this isn’t a same-day drop-off-and-pickup rental, so plan your yard access and any landscaping or lawn work around that window, not just the party date itself.
• We ask for at least 5 days’ notice to book — during peak season, earlier is better than later.
• There’s no minimum order, so a single tent package is easy to book even for a smaller open house.

If your date falls on or near a major graduation weekend, reaching out as soon as you have a party date locked in gives you the most flexibility on size and add-ons.

Every tent size is offered as a package that bundles the tent with tables and chairs — we don’t rent tables or chairs on their own, so what you see in each package is what comes with it:

• 20×20 Package — tent, 48 chairs, 6 tables
• 20×30 Package — tent, 64 chairs, 8 tables
• 20×40 Package — tent, 96 chairs, 12 tables

The 20×20 package is live and bookable now; the 20×30 and 20×40 packages reflect our planned lineup as we expand tent inventory, so availability for those sizes should be confirmed when you request your quote. Framed against pricing everything separately — a tent rental, a table rental, and chair rentals from different vendors, or buying disposable folding tables and chairs outright — a bundled package is generally the simpler and more cost-effective route for a one-day (or one-weekend) party, since you’re coordinating one delivery instead of three.

Planning Your Setup Space — Yard, Driveway, and Access

Before you request a quote, it helps to walk your own yard with the party in mind:

• Flat, open footprint. Picture the tent size you’re considering laid out in your yard, plus a few feet of clearance on each side for stakes or anchors and for people to walk around it comfortably.
• Driveway or paved setup. Grass is our standard setup surface, but concrete, asphalt, and paver surfaces work too — ask us about hard-surface setup, since we anchor those with concrete blocks and/or water barrels instead of ground stakes. Side walls, lighting, and those anchoring add-ons open the door to setups on surfaces where ground stakes aren’t an option — this is worth asking about directly if your best space is a driveway or patio rather than lawn.
• Delivery access. Think through gates, side-yard width, overhead branches, and whether the crew can get equipment from the driveway or street to the setup spot without carrying it through the house.
• Utility awareness. Have a general sense of where any buried lines, septic components, or sprinkler heads are before setup, and mention anything unusual when you request your quote.

Weather Planning for Late Spring Parties

Late May and early June in Northeast Ohio can swing from a sunny 80-degree afternoon to a cold, windy downpour with very little warning — which is exactly the scenario a tent is meant to solve. That said, tent rentals are handled differently than our bounce house rentals when it comes to weather: the bounce house rain policy does not apply to tent bookings.

Normal rain and heat aren’t grounds for cancellation or a refund — a properly set-up tent still functions fine in both. We do reserve the right to delay, modify, or cancel a setup, at no cancellation fee, when safety is genuinely at risk — sustained or gusting winds around 20 mph or higher, lightning, hail, or similar dangerous conditions. If you’d rather cancel over an ordinary rain forecast, that’s handled under our standard, non-weather cancellation policy.

In general, a properly set-up tent is meant to be used in rain, and it’s the wind that matters more for outdoor event structures — so plan your layout with that in mind and ask about our specific weather policy when you book.

Add-Ons Worth Considering

A handful of add-ons come up often for graduation parties specifically:

• Side walls — useful for blocking wind, adding privacy from the street, or creating a bit of shade control if the tent is positioned to catch a lot of afternoon sun.
• Lighting — worth considering if your open house runs into the evening or if you’re hosting a smaller after-party once the main crowd clears out.
• Concrete block or water barrel anchoring — the option to weight the tent down instead of staking it, relevant if your setup spot is on a driveway, patio, or other surface where stakes aren’t practical.
